Show ASK ANN ADVISOR f Dear ANN I have been taking classes one at a time for three years e. e at Im I'm working toward the nursing program 5 Problem is so is everyone else it seems The waiting list is three years long now Im I'm taking Math this quarter I thought that since Ive I've met all the other criteria I would be rea ready ly to join the waiting list when I finish the class But I saw a message on the electronic sign outside the College Center It said that Math is the new minimum requirement So now do db I have to finish Math before I can get on j the list Honestly ANN this is really taking a long time t and a lot of money t Either way Ill I'll be waiting a long time for the nursing i classes Any ideas on what I can do while Im I'm waiting Maybe something that could get me a job f Anxiously J A Poor and Perseverant Dear Perseverant The Nursing Department faculty did adopt a high math requirement to qualify for the nursing waiting list But if you meet all the other criteria and finish Math with a C grade or better this spring quarter you can get on the list before Math becomes a requirement Jc T Ton i 1 1992 on July i 1 iv- iv x 1 wV k-wV Those who have not achieved all the qualifications to lt m my i join the waiting list by July 1 m must st meet a stiffer algebra competency standard They must achieve a C grade or y it z better in Math or earn a placement test score that a ys' ys fia shows they are ready to ent enter r Math As far as what to do while youre you're waiting you have W choices t many First you c can n choose not to be in school If you wish to work and save money while waiting that is perfectly 2 acceptable If you need skills to ob obtain ain employment ii there are several programs at at designed to pr prepare pare you for employment that may interest you Some programs designed to teach you job skills include in in- elude clude Cosmetology Barbering Graphic Design Printing both desktop publishing and offset press Collision R Repair e p air and P Painting a i n tin g Aut Automotive 0 mot i veT Technician e c h n i cia n I Electricity Heavy Duty or Maintenance Mechanic t i Professional Truck Driving Others are Small Equip Equip- Vehicle ment Technician Welding Air Conditioning Refrigeration and Heating rPt Apprenticeship programs can prepare you to become a i. i boilermaker carpenter chef electrician ironworker machinist painter and decorator plumber or i refrigeration technician Of course there are other health care career programs too J The Skills Center offers short programs in several areas f p without awarding college credit x For information about these and other opportunities consult your catalog Buy one for just at the y j courtesy desk or in the bookstore t yA S.
