By Y ee nn oe me An opportunity to enroll in a pre-nursing pre program at has been offered r- r to a select group of high school seniors from the tri-district tri Granite Murray and Jordan Some of the schools involved include Alta Brighton Cotton Cottonwood wood Murray and Kearns The districts pay for tuition books and travel The program is set up as an addition to the students student's regular curriculum They get full college credit which is transferable to other colleges The students take Physiology Anatomy Psychology and Nutrition courses 0 requisite pre-requisite to nursing The students have eight credit hours a quarter and andare andare are expected to perform the same as other college student There is no individual individual individual indi indi- vidual follow up They are strictly responsible for themselves Ms J Jean an Larsen Service Occupations Dean said It UIt gives them a flavor of what college is about She also gave the example of how each year in grade school students are told how hard the next year is going to be and then discover discover it i is easy So when the high school students were told how hard the college collegeS S courses were they didn't believe it They were surprised to find out how I difficult the classes were h Since high school started the first part of September the high school students students students stu stu- stu- stu dents had four weeks of pre orientation and transition activities before college f courses began Jf The funding is furnished by a grant of vocational f funds Ms Larsen said As Asfar far as we know the grant will be repeated next year Fall Quarter was the first quarter the program was offered so those in MY charge as still working on the organization stages Ac According g to Ms Berit Bent v Blomquist Physiology Anatomy instructor so some e of the high school counselors s tj who picked the students should have screened them better She feel the ability t r and dedication are important criteria for selection All districts were informed of the program but not not all schools participated |
