Show f O F F 0 0 0 D D DB B a als I sa am m mE E Embers e r s J jp r r i REVIEW Not everyone gets to go to toan toan toan an expensive restaurant whenever whenever whenever when when- ever the urge hits When going to dinner is planned and budgeted budgeted bud bud- for it is very important not to make a wrong decision and choose a poor restaurant Balsam Embers is one of those good choices that will be I d hard to go wrong For years it has had the he reputation of one of the best restaurants in Salt Lake and rightfully so The only complaint I had was the food was served too fast The minute one course ourse was finished finished finished finish finish- ed the next had arrived leaving leaving leaving leav leav- ing no time for the previous course to settle However the waitress was very nice and not at all artificial or too formal as happens so often in better restaurants Shortly after being seated we were served relishes with pate and relish spreads which were delicious These were then whooshed away to make By COLLEEN BERRETT way for the soup and salad We ordered clam chowder and french onion soups both very good For salads I ordered the Hearts of Palm salad a specialty special special- ty and my husband ordered the tossed salad with frozen blue cheese dressing also a specialty I cant can't say much about the Hearts of Palm salad I didn't like the palm sprouts nor the vinaigrette dressing but this could be because of my particular taste buds The selection of main courses cours cours- es was quite varied Instead of just the usual steak or prime rib they also had selections of veal fish and steak and lob lob- ster I ordered Veal Cordon Bleu which is veal sliced and filled with ham bacon and swiss cheese and I cant can't describe how delicious it was Ive I've never had such tend tend- er meat in hi Utah before My husband ordered steak and lobster and again the meat was tender and delecta- delecta ble We had a choice of brownrice brown brownrice brownrice rice baked potatoe or fries fides with our entree and also served served sewed sew sew- ed was cauliflower which was about average The rolls were fresh and we were given some homemade blueberry jam to togo togo togo go with them Our dessert was cheesecake good but had a slightly burned burned burn bum ed crust and chocolate mint sundae just Gust the right amount of topping after which we were presented the bill and sent off with a piece of homemade divinity The interior of Embers is well decorated and pleasant with a nice view partially barred unfortunately by K The bill for dinner for two was 1625 and well worth it It is best to call for reservations in advance |
