L Nelson spoke to the Promotions Promotion's class this last week on topics ranging from past and present issues promotions promotions promotions pro pro- motions and debates to professional and personal accomplishments President Nelson reluctant to bias student feelings expressed concern over the latest in changes not only the school name but also change toward a community com com- community college As one of the original he feels that taking the vocational idea out of the name may bring on more prestige but believes that there is is or at least should be prestige to be had in the area of trades He expresses the feeling I dont don't care so much what you do just so you do it well Professionally President Nelson has run the gambit in the education field He began as a teacher at North Sevier High School in Salina Utah in the business and speech departments and then on to the State Education Association tion During his years here Dr Nelson held regular recognition banquets to honor the staff and faculty To gain the prestige and dignity he desired for the school he implemented a public relations promotion campaign In the eight years since his departure from he has stayed active as President Emeritus During that time Dr T. T H. H Bell Secretary of Education asked him to serve on a council of the Study of School Boards and to travel to 37 school districts around the US U.S. During puring that time he also wrote a book entitled The First Thirty Years 19 chapters are about the growth of Utah Technical College |
