Show Biological Honor Society Stages Field Trip V t by Kort Black VP V.P. Biological Honor Society staged a field trip to California's California's California's Califor Califor- nias nia's Redwood forest and central coast areas during the break between Spring and Summer quarters The twenty people that attended felt the trip was exceptionally exception Ily educational and that it was time well spent In fact the view was expressed many times that this particular field trip with the educational emphasis was better than any vacation one could plan elan in California It was the original aim at the time of the conception to provide the honor students students' in biology an extra-curricular extra opportunity to learn and experience things not normally available to the students in inthe the classroom class class- room And the trip to was all of that and more The students were given a rare opportunity to r mingle with h and alq lr learn rpt from vr distinguished biology gy faculty who played an important role in the trips trip's success Many short impromptu lectures were enjoyed at various times during the trip Some of those best remembered ranged from a lecture by Dr Jim Hampton on mosquito larvae to Dr Bill Tanners Tanner's lectures on botany and the local Redwood Flora Some of the many activities during the five day trip included camping and hiking in the Redwoods visiting the Monteray Bay Aquarium studying tide pools at Natural Bridges state park near Santa Cruz cooking and eating an arthropod dinner visiting the California Academy o of Sciences museum in San Francisco and m much ch more The trip was also an opportunity for the members of the society to get getto getto getto to know each other better The group camped together cooked together and learned together In fact one of the primary concerns was keeping the cost of the trip to a minimum This was accomplished by taking advantage of the e economical al benefits of camping thereby avoiding high motel and restaurant costs-and costs with O.
