Landau Dr Benton P. P Patten instructor of Fine Arts Arts- believes that teaching students students' Art is also teaching them a away away way of life since art is used in all disciplines of life With a bounce of enthusiasm and a a. winning smile Dr Patten walks into his class prepared to tomake tomake tomake make this clas class a real adventure In the spring of 1960 Patten completed his hi undergraduate work and his masters degree at the Brigham Young University majoring in art painting w with th a minor if in psychology He became a teaching assistant during the following three y years rs In 1963 he left for New York City to attend the Brooklyn Museum Art School where he studied lithography at the Pratt Graphic Art Center in New York City from January to July of that of-that that year of 1964 He returned to the West in 1966 to 1969 to the ESEA Title III Project in the Ogden City School system In May of 1974 he completed his dissertation for his Doctor in Education at the University of Illinois State Dr Patten has an imposing list of awards lecture demonstrations collections and exhibits While in New NewYork NewYork NewYork York he received the Max Beckmann Memorial Scholarship at the Brooklyn Museum Art School and the Monitor Scholarship at the Pratt Graphic Art Center in New York He has received awards from the Utah Arts Council and the McClean County Illinois Association Association Association tion of Commerce and Industry A faculty grant in the Institute of Research h New Mexico Highlands University was awarded him His solo exhibits and collections are shown in different galleries throughout the United States from UTe h to Bloomington Indiana to Utrecht Holland His works rang hang in the Art Connection in Los Angeles Cal California ornia and The Many Horses Gallery there His membership in professional organizations and leadership in various community activities varies fro from ling 1 ing a m member of the College Art Art Association to the National Education Association of Higher Education of Utah and New Mexico He is a community director of many art and theater productions through the Intermountain States Pattens Patten's philosophy is that the analysis of learning is the taking of random information through the thinking process and putting it into the purest form of art Art AIt is used in all disciplines of learning Doctor Patten will be teaching four classes in Art History each quarter which fills the humanities humanities' requirement for any interested student The classes are open t tall to all with oil painting and water color olor classes being offered during the coming quarters His ho hopes and dreams are re to promote fine art here at His great concern and love is to teach students a way of l life e by portraying real soul of art |
