Show i L Off Campus Reports Hansen Planetarium t Presents The State The stars have gone out at Hansen Planetarium The planetariums planetarium's star theatre is temporarily dark while the staff dismantles the old star projector Jake and installs an exciting new computer graphics star tar projection system There Ther will be no public star shows lectures or classes during the installation period in January and February The star theatre will once again be filled with stars and andopen andopen andopen open to the public in early March 1985 The old star projector was the focus of planetarium presentations for the past nineteen years since the planetarium opened in November 1965 As with any complex piece of machinery time and use use- took their toll on the old projector which had not been performing all of its functions for several years The new projector represents the the state-of-the-art and puts Hansen Planetarium on the leading edge of planetarium technology Designed and marketed by Evans Sutherland of Salt Lake City is a sophisticated computer graphics system with many cap capabilities beyond those of the traditional planetarium star projector Audiences at shows will be delighted by the countless special effects and capabilities of the system Among many other things visitors will be flown through space to reach another planet star or galaxy is a system with seemingly limitless excitement During the installation period January and February of 1985 Hansen Planetariums Planetarium's space science exhibits and will be open to the public Monday-Friday Monday from 9 am a.m. to 1 pm p.m. Special educational programs for school groups are also available during these hours More information is available by telephone Monday-Friday Monday from 8 am a.m. to 5 pm p.m. at 2 |
