returned to blanding monday conrad rowley has returned to ft ord after spending an enjoyable joya b ae week with his family here his parents mr and mrs vernon rowley and brother dudley accompanied him as far as provo don lyman and his sister eliza lyman bond and son visited a few days in blanding the past week don and eliza are children of the late jody and nellie grayson lyman who left blanding blandin in 1913 this is the first time eliza has been back and she notes a great many changes among other things was that when they left here and went to Mayfie led it took them lz 12 days to make the trip now she covers the same distance in a few hours mrs viola sipe is in california with her daughter ca carrie rrie mae she went to welcome a wee little grand son who has not yet i nen been N en permitted to leave the hospital but the last report is is i that the baby is doin doing nicel nicely y and will probably be able to go home to his grand mother and parents in the near future mrs alice carroll watkins and children arrived wednesday for a visit with her parents mr and mrs heber carroll she came from mesa and was accompanied compa nied by henry watkins and mrs vera black and sons juricic cand lewis who have spent a few days at the home of mr and mrs iva ivan n watkins in mesa ariz and are now on their way home in northern utah to oin mr black i mr and mrs vint redd mr and mrs parley redd mr mrs alma redd and mrs maggie harvey attended market week in denver this week they left blanding sunday afternoon mr and mrs devar Shurn shumway way have moved their family back from grand junction for the winter they have spent the summer with his work when they returned they found the recent storm had done consider able damage to their home some of the shingles had been ripped off and the ceilings were wet and sagging mr and mrs grant A dayles bayles returned last week from grand junction where they went for dental work they also did some shopping and mr bayles had a growth removed from his eye lawrence and lucille wright went to st george friday to welcome their first new grand daughter she is the daughter of I 1 mr and mrs seitz mrs wright I 1 will stay in st george tor for a couple of weeks but lawrence came right back to his work little allen alien ross bayles who is visiting at the home of his uncle grant L bayles had cards from his mother mrs zephia bayles monday to say that she had arrived at illinois on her trip to the east she has gone with her sister mrs irene williams to take her daughter connie to new jersey on her way to her appointment with the government miss williams expects to be shipped to italy or germany in the very near future junior and mavis cosby are arc happy over the arrival kofl their first daughter at the county hospital sunday morning at 7 a in her little brother dennis is waiting to welcome her at home A group of quil responded to an invitation at the home of mrs lester black wednesday aften oon to help her finish a quilt mr and mrs delbert redd enjoyed a short visit last week from her sister and family from salt lake city they are mr and mrs don howard mr howard writes for the salt lake tribune and gets material for some of his articles from the area around blanding while they were in blanding this time they took the trip over the new comb road and back over the bridge road over the elk mountain mr and mrs jesse walker and younger childrens chil drene their daughter mrs charles gallagher and daughter in law helen are enjoying a trip to the north west they planned to spend a while with their son barney and family up there and then go to california to see their son sherill before che is shipped out with many ot of his navy comp pan ions mr and mrs grant L bayles were host and hostess to a group of friends relatives and neighbors at an outdoor supper at the park thursday evening after eating the group spent an hour or two enjoying the fresh air and a beautiful bonfre on ane rocks mr and mrs norwood porter and children arrived mond monday ay from their home in L louisville 0 u le ky for a with h his is parents a r mr and mrs hyrum porter orter and other members of his family they expect to spend some time in salt lake too before they return to the south mr porter is attending a dental school and expects to complete his course in about ten months mr and mrs hyrum porter received word about a month ago aher they plan to be employed the next two iwo years A group of boys and girls met at the horn hom of billy galbraith monday to he ip him cei cele oraie curate his birthday they planned to go to bluff swimming but gave it up after the rain storm the night before zenos black has been in salt lake the past week to continue in his search for teachers tor for tan san juan county this winter melvin black elizabeth wright and grant A bayles were members of the sunday school stake board who visited at lasal sunday miss bernadine harris a niece of mrs evie stevens has been a visitor at the stevens home for a week or two miss harris lives at price utah mrs louise E redd returned from ii a visit to some of her children at st george she stayed with her son argyle and family and helped to welcome a new grandson then she went to vista calif where she went to welcome a new grand da daughter h who had arrived at the home hm of mr and mrs don redd don and his family have lived in california since october 1952 he has been stationed at the marine base he is the district president of the elders quorum in that area in the very near future he will be sent with marines to either japan or kobe island mrs redd also contacted francis black during her stay there she reports that he is getting along very well and is the president of the mutual in the oceanside branch i guests at the home of mrs redd over the ithe weekend were mr and mrs bement and dr and d mrs baker of st george mr bement is a retired retired teacher but the other three are still teaching jessie redd mcdonald lived at the bement home while she attended the school at st george and is a very close friend the travelers came from st george by way of the forest and across monument valley they report the roads in very bad shape across that cou country n try when they left blanding they planned to go to mesa verde and to the indian ceremonies at gallup N M mr and mrs montgomery of blanding have i just enjoyed a visit from their daughter trudy tru dy who is employed at cleveland ohio I 1 freda hunt lucille wright and melba biliack attended the five hours of schooling given at price recently teach teaching ingi them how to judge at county fairs it was very interesting and educational there were 52 women from five counties in attendance mr and mrs arthur hurst are arc spending their vacation in blanding with the their children their home is in manti and they are here while the temple is closed during august keith rogers parents have had word that he is settled on a little island about 20 minutes from japan it is the first time he has really enjoyed his army life ile he is established in a three story building with all the conveniences with the best of food to eat cat and will attend radio school tor for the next ten weeks ile he was luckier than some of his buddies who got go to korea in time for the last fights some of them were wounded and one iwas was killed I 1 mr alma hawkins is staying at the home of his daughter mrs irs alice brown he is doing some carpenter work at her home at the present and might remain in in blanding for an indefinite stay if he keeps busy mr earl james and son john arrived in blanding to make their home for the winter he plans to teach music in the high school they have come from provo mr james taught music in the monticello school a number I 1 of years ago I 1 I 1 thursday thora bradford and her daughter in laws and their children went to the grove for an outing they cooked their dinner and enjoyed the day miss alene black is visiting wah her parents mr and mrs zenos black at the present time she has been employed in salt lake city the blanding stake mission aries attended the religious con ference at dolores
