Show PAY DAY ro ao daiy diy wr wm DOW DOUG 61 k 1 1 4 fj 1 A 4 A CORMEN FROW washington 4 DOUGLAS first utah RING DOWN THE CURTAIN shortly after congress convened in january of this year I 1 started to send these weekly newsletters to several of my close personal friends but as the weeks progressed many other persons asked to have their names added to our mailing list As a result day to day with doug has reached a circulation of several thousand and in addition many of the weekly newspapers in utah also print this material each week the personal cost to me has become somewhat burdensome but I 1 have felt both the expense and effort have been offset by the advantages gained by letting others share in my ex experiences per bences here in washington however inasmuch as congress has now adjourned I 1 will discontinue the issuance of these weekly news letters until next january in the mean time however ill be issuing periodic news bulletins to keep you informed of my activities and in addition ill be traveling throughout the first congressional district so I 1 should have an opportunity to personally meet with many of my friends in the not too distant future SCHOOL IS OUT when joe martin speaker of the house of representatives brought down his gavel for the lasit time and announced the session of the congress of the united states of america is hereby adjourned 1 I felt somewhat the same exhilarated relieved feeling I 1 recall having Is as a youth when my elementary teacher announced school was out for the summer inasmuch aj ai this marks the end of my first legislative year in congress it has a way been a period of school for me and today is some what of a graduation day I 1 isel feel that I 1 have come a long way wal and wd made considerable progress since taking E the oath OL 01 office on january 3 of this year therefore it is with deep gratitude and humility that I 1 thank the people of my district for placing their faith and trust in me and giving givin 9 me M this coveted opportunity to re Pres etri and speak for them here in in our national legislature MUCH REMAINS TO BE DONE even though congress has now adjourned that does docs not mean the end of my labors for the people of my district quite quila or the contrary much of the hardest work still lies ahead in n coming out into the district district and meeting with people to discuss what we have accomplished what is yet to be achieved and to hear your suggestions and ideas as to what course of action you believe your government should pursue in the trouble fraught months still ahead these past lew few weeks have been hectic for both me and for my staff congress has been in session six days a week and night 0 sessions have been the general rule rather than the exception needless to say im somewhat exhausted by the pace and I 1 am planning to rest and relax for a short period of time before getting back into the harness so I 1 hope you will understand and be patient if you write to me and your letter is answered by my administrative assistant or one of my secretaries NEW headquarters IN UTAH around the ithe first part of september I 1 will establish a temporary summer office in the hotel ben lomond in ag den utah during the remainder of this year you will be able to reach me or one of the members of my staff by either calling the hotel or sending your letters to that address one of my secretaries secie tanes will remain in washington to act as a liaison representatives senta tives on any matters which must be taken up with various governmental department but I 1 would appreciate if all mail or inquiries could be directed to me at the ogden address during the fall months I 1 will be traveling throughout the d district s holding meeting and legislative clinics in the various cities already my speaking calendar is very heavily booked both in utah and adjoining states so it looks like there will be lots of traveling in the months ahead if you are interested in directing a few barbs in my directions or in breaking bread with me on some occasion then I 1 suggest you check you local newspaper for the time and place when ill be in your community |
