Show allans for new school building program in county discussed at a postponed school board meeting monday most of the time was ta taken ken up in discussing the proposed building pro program ram that is contemplated for th the e county in attendance at the meeting were carl scott architect who had drawn tentative sketches of a building calculated to meet the immediate needs of monticello and thomas boice whose special work is in the financing of such projects the schools of the county are badly overcrowded and the need for more class room space is urgent monticello has a total of students in one building aj chich aich includes doth the high school and the grades blandin blanding whose situation is just a little le less urgent has students in two buildings while it is obvious that monticello has the greatest need for more building space for the time being yet the program is intended to embrace the long range of the county and a building for the grade school of blanding holds the next highest priority it is pointed out that the maxi num that can be raised for school building in the county at the present time is it is mandatory under the law that expenditures tures be held within this continued on page four school building continued from page 1 amo amount and therefore necessary that any building program be within this budget while i it would be desirable to build a building that would safely meet the needs of the future yet with this definite limiting factor the new structure will have to conform in size and construction to the funds available with this in view the architect has drawn tentative sketches of a gyana 1 slum auditorium that will be 70 X feet and will seat spectators around a standard size basket ball court also included in the plan will be six class rooms two toilet rooms two dressing rooms principals office superintendents office which will be alsor also used as board room built in lockers and a central heating plant that is intended to heat both buildings it is suggested sug jested that the new building will be located perhaps I 1 30 feet north of the present building and for the present at least the shop library and home economics rooms will have to remain in ate old building that the two be connected by a weather proof corridor under this arrangement the lower six grades would have to occupy the old building while the upper six would each have a room in the new building and would have the facilities of shop and home economics and library in the old build nig it might be advisable if this plan is carried out to seal the north portion of the old building off 0 keep the schools se since the construction of the san juan high school in blanding the costs of construction have doubled that building was completed for approximately to replace it today would cost it is estimated |
