Show i bluff Stream bank project approved A project for stream bank protection of the san juan river I 1 in the bluff area has been approved by the corps of army engineers gi I 1 the river has been and is washing 1 away the land resulting in considerable acreage loss if the river is not turned it may eventually flood the town of bluff an and d the state highway leading to monument valley and uranium deposits 1 there the approved project affords 1 plans for checking the cutting and turning of the river bluff citizens and representatives of the A army amy engineers county commissioners and soil conservation sr vatin service held a meeting nov 19 in monticello where arrangements range ments for easements of property involved were made and legal technicalities effected thus completing the plans for this work interest of the people of bluff though few in number is evidenced by the fact that they raised 1000 to further this work this together with the contribution of the county and state agencies totaling will be turned to the county to be used only for maintenance which will be supervised by the san juan soil conservation district in order that this protection can be had a large rock crib will be constructed and a cable stretched from the protruding bank southeast of bluff to this crib either pole jacks or large cedar trees will be tied to the cable to break the current of th the e river so that it will wil drop its load of silt local contractors are encouraged to bid on the work which it is hoped will begin by I 1 january 1949 information can be obtained by writing to the corps of engineers los angeles district office S figueroa st los angeles 14 california |
