enter the armed forces as an aviation cadet he has spent most of the past pasi eight months in stillwater okla and san antonio texas due to a physical defect he found it necessary to transfer from pilot training to some other field he is now in a bomber mechanical cho school in amarillo texas our heartfelt heart felt sympathy goes out to the ben redd family in their great loss of wife and mother from scott field ill we hear of joseph black he enlisted in the air corps reserve in the spring of 42 in march of 43 he was called from logan where he was attending the to go to shepard field texas here he took his basic training then went to stillwater okla where he attended college for three months and then went to texas he studied identification of all war equipment here at el reno okla he did a lot of flying Is now studying radio at scott field lyle johnson graduated f from r 0 in san juan high in 39 and left three months later to take a job in idaho as weather observer later his office was moved to owyhee owahee nevada lie he stayed there as weather observer and radio oper difficult these days the elementary school is preparing a program to be given the last day before they let out for the holidays how fortunate we aie are that we can look forward to christmas knowing that we have peace and plenty even though many will be sad because their boys can not be at home at this house well filled that all may enjoy it I 1 ator until the fall of 41 after a short visit at home he enlisted in the radio division of the navy 1 from feb until sept 42 he was in school at san francisco and los angeles from sept to dec 42 lyle was an instructor he sailed for parts unknown in jan 43 since that time he has been on duty as radio operator for the navy in the solomon islands he say much about the country and nothing about the people it seems that he is located in an isolated spot he says it is hot as h and either rains hard bard or rains harder last week his in mother oth week he has been at wahpeton N D for the last four months attending the state school of science ce on completing his schooling there he was promoted to r ic he left sund sunday fay night for shoemaker calif for r an advanced school on his way he expected to stop in salt lake to visit his sister shannon norwood porter has been transferred from buckley field to col leg eville minn he says it is very cold there and that the school is is strictly a catholic school but he likes it fine harold young expected tp be at home for christmas but called his mother from san diego te J ling her he make it has a medical discharge he enjoyed the life of a navy man while in service and hardly knows how to adjust himself to civilian life again the jack van zant family is leaving this week for boulder city nevada they expect to be back in the spring when the abe road work can be resumed they have enjoyed their stay here and want to thank everyone for making it pleasurable our boys just returned turned for her but greatly miss her here when w need a special picture drawn many of our students are home for the holidays collene and loyd from logan jessie manfrom st george audrey and doris from salt lake anna cherrill and vera from provo and margie from ephraim they all seem to be happy to be home but are glad for the opportunities afforded them its amusing to hear bear them bantering as to which into the army leaving blanding mar 18 41 he was the third one to leave here he went first to fort knox in kentucky then to fort B banning nning ga where he was in the motorcycle division H he e SP spent ent some time in the hospital there as result of being thrown from his motorcycle while here he was in charge of his patrol he was on maneuvers in la tex N C S ic tenn and miss so he has seen some of this country from NC N C he was sent to the DC N J and N Y finally reaching africa the day before christmas 42 he has been in sicily and is now in italy tie he say much of hs IP S experiences place and he will be glad when he can come back he is very optimistic about it all and says he will be seeing us soon P A quick recovery is what we tare are all wishing for clyde J wright who is now in a U S hospital he writes his mother not to worry he will soon be 0 OK K clyde has been in the gilberts and the solomons saw 62 days of fighting and in one battle witnessed am all but buddies go down number not plain he says he has been promised a trip home before he has to go back over during the last week we have had so many christmas cards from our service men and others with notes attached expressing their appreciation for what is being cone caone for them that we would like to ta add it is a pleasure to help in any way we can though my column is mostly concerning the boys and girls away from home I 1 am interested in others too and may I 1 add that though marg writing about the boys and girls she is writing for them and although she dresna tell you where jack or john is she does tell what the church is doing ard and how things are going at ome and florence who is there among us that would have been so faithful through all these years most of us would have joined the strikers long ago and lets not forget mrs ogden she know you like we d ds but she has more than done her share in seeing that you get the paper and now we all join in wishing you success happiness and
