| Show blanding couple C 0 u p I 1 e celebrate golden wedding by isabelle redd of special interest to 0 d time csider es ider s of san juan county was ithe the golden wedding anniversary of mr and mrs john D rogers of blanding which was celebrated tuesday at their home I 1 friends of the couple b began egan arriving by two p m to congratulate this happy pair i whose acquaint acquaintance ance has meant so much to a wide circle of friends present on this occasion were imia mi 3 lucinda redd and mrs aemma emma wood veteran ladies who fifty years ago had the distinction bof of attending ahe he wedding reception I 1 I 1 of mr and mrs rogers i eleven of their sons and daughters aiters were home for the occasion some coming from california and lother other distant points mr and mrs rogers received many beautiful gifts s the most outstanding being a gold god watch and chain for mr rogers and a wrist watch for mrs I 1 rogers these were from their children and grandchildren A most delicious luncheon was served from small tables beautifully I decorated an artistically decorated wedding c cake a k e was among the athe gifts made by their daughter mrs wallace burnham v note each of our blanding correspondents florence galbraith and minnie bugg sent an account a of the anniversary celebration similar to that received earlier earlie f from rom miss redd mrs bugg added some interesting data which fol f ol 01 I 1 lows mr rogers was born on octa I 1 ber 9 1866 at provo utah when just a lad he moved with his par enta to alizna Ari Ar izna zons where chere they were called as indgin in 1890 he moved to san juan county where he helped build the ditch and pine piner r the ha white mesa one year aate his arrival in san juan ii he married miss elizabeth may stevens she wa was s born at holden utah on august 14 1870 mrs rogers knows and Q understands the hardships of a pioneer 1 all her life has been spent on the frontier first with her parents at fruitland froitland Fruit land N M and then by her husband husbands ss side at bluff and blanding she has undergone all the privations and sufferings of the pioneer woman and has enjoyed the fruits of her labors with the continued on page 8 BLAN BLANDING DING COUPLE continued from page 1 knowledge that she has helped to make his part of the world a bet ter place for those who are to follow her mr and mrs rogers were married in the manti temple on november 25 1891 and have had twelve children born to them eleven of whom are living D djohn john rogers mrs emma burnham mrs bertha hurst mrs willard porter er mrs tressa deeter cecil clay rogers mrs nina chapell clarence rogers anthony S rogers mrs ernest coppinger and rulon rogers all were present mrs nina chapell who was detained at her home in salt lake city on account of illness they also have 38 grandchildren and two great grandchildren mr rogers has served three missions for the church one of them being a two year mission sio n in old mexico both mr and mrs rogers have been active in civic and church affairs and have many friends who wish them continued success |
