Show FARMERS ARE URGED TO investigate NEW A A A PRACTICES 0 attention was called today to the supplemental soil b u i I 1 d i n g practices listed in the 1942 AAA program handbook for utah karl S barton chairman of the san juan county AAA committee said that farmers of the county should go over this list carefully noting the things which would help them in solving individual farm problems among other things the following becom recommendations men lations are listed in the handbook removal of diseased or uneconomic fruit or nut trees control or elimination of noxious weeds reorganization of the farm irrigation system the control of rodents the construction of liquid manure tanks and the control of gullies by nori non grazing mr barton pointed out especially the he reorganization of the farm irrigation system payments may be earned for the relocation and construction of additional permanent laterals literals late rals lining of permanent irrigation ditches installing cul verts and flumes blumes establishing of border or corrugation irrigation in connection with the seeding of perennial grass or legumes afi C st ruction of contour ditches in A chadds ch ards and the construction of dikes to carry water across low places in the land some of the most serious erosion sion of topsoil top soil in utah is being caused by faulty irrigation he said A farmer to be eligible to earn payments under this provision of the program must have at least 50 of his cropland devoted to perennial grasses or legumes le umes and then not more more than 50 of the soil building allowance may be earned on these practices however if the maximum payment for the farm is 20 or less the 50 provision will not apply and the entire payment may be earned by carrying out any or all of these special practices fc |
