Show old folks FO aks enjoy annual outing 0 0 by elmer I 1 last thursday the annual picnic for the old folks of Monde mon aceilo eito ard and vicinity meaning those sixty years of age or over took place at the blue mountain dude ranch now deserted except for the caretaker burton burlon C west the setting was perfect and fine weather added greatly to the enjoyment ot both the guests and the committees in charge of the activities to mr and mrs donald aja adams was given the ask of ishuin issuing an invitations and so far as we know no one was overlooked wilford christensen and a nd joe adams provided transportation which required about ten cars and pickups to make the trip of some 11 miles the attendance was said to be the sma smallest lIest for a number of years due to the fact that some remained away in order to attend to their bountiful crops or to do other work there were nearly wo dozen guests however and the committee members and entertainers swelled the number to some two score while a pleasant hour was spent in in visiting and making new ac the dinner committee mrs wilford christensen mrs frank halls and mrs kirs lavina redd prepared a bunte bounteous ous meal over the rock stove which is not far from the picnic tables chairman frank halls of the program committee asked thomas foy to return thanks after which all the good things to eat were passed including fried chicken noodles fried potatoes tomatoes corn on cob fruit salad buns coffee and po sturn dessert included ice cream in cantaloupe halves shelled peanuts and after dinner mints after the sumptuous dinner and subsequent visiting mrs dora adams on the program committee with mr halls and mr and mrs ralph jensen called on patsy bailey and joyce adams to open the program with music they continued on page 5 OLD FOLKS ENJOY ANNUAL OUTING continued from page 1 played dixie on the piano ara and did so well that they were called back for an encore having played in bands and also piano duets the writer appreciates good anus busis c then mrs mm adams asked A aay jay redd for an impromptu speech mr redd has the edvi ikas ible ble faculty of not only keeping nis listeners at ease but entertaining them with interesting things that seem to come to his mind in perfect order stressing the I 1 value of land as the e greatest contributor i tri butor to the conten contentment ment and happiness of people in general he interspersed his remarks with well chosen jokes A son song by zola and margaret bronson was so well received that they too were c obliged to respond to an encore miss joy a sister pf af mrs hallie jensen delighted the picnickers with a reading and responded graciously to the call for another after mrs mary jane wilson read a poem written by her sister mrs adams called for thomas foy A jay redd and burton west to come forward giving each a suit sui case she instructed them to don the garments found inside promising a prize to the one who was dressed first As the apparel was that not familiar to the masculine persuasion this event proved the the most mirth provoking one of the day mr redd won the prize td close the program J M bailey H redshaw and elmer engaged in a clothes hanging c contest having had much experience ape ien e along this line the writer enjoyed a walkaway over the other contestants |
