Show INDUSTRY WANTED 9 5 V W I 1 will 1 M 11 0 o Z under the leadership of governor maw utah steps out for more industries to add to those already here pictured is a unit of one of great industrial units the magna plant of utah copper 1 I believe in encouraging capital to come to our state states governor herbert B ba maw aw in an article contained in the new 1941 edition ot of the mining industry of utah a publication sponsored by the mining committee of the salt lake city chamber of commerce which has just been released go governor vernor maw sounds sound s an encouraging c cou ou note tor for those who are willing to assist in the development of vast store of undeveloped resources and takes the lead in a movement to attract industry to utah his statement in part follows utah is blessed with more varied natural resources than most any state in the union in ina many ny respects it has a natural setup for a great industrial center though its distance from regions ot of heavy population and other f factors actors provide V ide difficulties since statehood the government has never taken the lead in developing dav dave eloping lopin its possibilities utahna hive been converted to the thought that they should wiit wait and pray for outside capital to come in and develop what we have like most of our citizens I 1 believe in encouraging capital to come to our oun state I 1 believe in pro viding reasonable inducements nt ants to tar get it here but I 1 do not believe in standing ld idly ly by and bating for it to arrive I 1 think the time has come when utah must take the lead in getting thin things gs st arted tor for its own people the le legislature is latura should eliminate every possible restrictive measure which discourages a es capital investments the administrative departments should adopt a policy of helpful regulation end bus business inezs should be made fiade to realize that the state slate do da sires sires to assist it not discourage it in tact fact I 1 believe that all state officials should be required to work on the assumption that the average business man is honest not a rogue and that the state need not employ a corps of workers to get something on someone as has so often been the case in the past the state should be especially willing to cooperate with its own citizens in the various business fields such a program as this will go a long way toward giving hope to utah business and utah citizens and will reduce the relief roll the mining industry of utah provides a total or partial living tor for over 50 per cent of our population every means should be adopted to help this industry |
