Show the old settler written in salt lake city lar ar san Jua ners vv week I 1 spoke about the park to park highway as advocated by zeke johnson a means ot of bringing a stream of money which has not yet become any important part of the county revenue there are two good healthy reasons why everybody in the county old and young should call for and work for this highway the first reason is that if they all pull together get the highway the second reason is is that when it comes it will benefit everybody in the county as well as being a distinct advantage to the state in general when it comes with its thousands of people people who of course have a little loose cash or they be on the road the first thing for the people of san juan to think about is how they can best serve and please these travelers and provide the route of this new scenic attraction with all the comforts and conveniences which could be ex tourists like to see nifty comfortable for table cabins at frequent intervals along the road as anybody will testify who has had to travel forty miles after quitting time to find a place to hang up that road through san juan would pass plenty of places where tourist lodges unique and attractive could be put up in connection with service stations and counters for serving refreshments selling curios or whatever would leave a good taste in the mouth or a pleasant memory in the mind of someone who was going away to tell about the famous new highway there are plenty of places along route where industrious peo could produce and offer fresh ewh temptations as fruit melons eggs milk and other essentials attractive to the consumer and profitable to the producer if the road goes down white canyon the colorado at dandy crossing should become more of an attraction than the bridges or any other place on the highway it should be made a regular paradise for extra fine peaches whopper melons and other things thi needing on argument but their appearance pe arance that place has the soil the climate and the water and if it is handled in the right way it could be made into a profitable center for selling souvenirs of a place different to any other in the world it would be profitable at that iw aga to equip for side excursions places of interest for even the people of utah have no idea of what is to be seen there ind people from the outside would get the thrill of their lives if the road takes a more souther southerly course this idea will apply equally well or even better every station along the road would do well both for its own sake and for the good of the country to carry a full line of curios and souvenirs nearly every one of which could be made to serve as special advertisers of the charms of the county they should have a thousand pictures in postcard form showing numbers of places in the county different to anything to be found elsewhere these stations could handle indian baskets and other indian goods and thus not only help ev else but make a new slant on the industry of the deans themselves these stations should be provided with histories and stories stones of san juan pictures of its leading builders pictures and stories of its many historical places in saying that one of the first things for the people of the county to think about is the best service they can give the traveling public it should go without saying that they are serving the themselves M even better for the man who can give the best service is always preferred yours for f or the good of san S an juan ALBERT R LYMAN |
