Show our weekly chat M M 0 plenty to talk about this week and we may have to condense some of the news in order to fit it in to our allotted space the big event of the week was our trip to moab on thursday to have the injured leg inspected and to consult with dr auen allen about the fine progress we are making which we hoped would result in removing the cast before the ten week period As you know it is a 45 mile drive each way plus the three miles to our cabin as we enter the highway at our byway by way and while the greater part of the distance is over improved and oiled roads there is a very mean five mile stretch now under reconstruction st but it was interesting to see the progress made since our I 1 previous trip on october 4 shortly after the work was started and what an improvement there will be when this work is completed and those dangerous curves and narrow roads of the present will be resolved into another stretch of fine highway we left our valley before n nine I 1 i nei in order order to keep appointments made at ea each ch of the moab beauty parlors as advertised in our weekly record and you can imagine what it meant to have a good shampoo and wave after this long period of confinement at home mary rendered this service for us and anna W lowry of the modern beauty shop gave equally fine service to our daughter roberta who accompanied us on this occasion we must not forget to say that I 1 david debruine chauffeured us I 1 and spent his time during the he long day in moab repairing the door of our car which needed a new s spring pring and other attention at two we went to the moab hospital for the appointment with dr allen alien and remained there until nearly because of the I 1 need to make a slight adjustment I 1 which necessitated removing a part of the cast when X rays taken on this occasion caused dr allen alien to advise this change incidentally we were told that the bones are knitting well and dr allen alien was also pleased with the general appearance and the progress made thus far but he says no in regard to removing this annoying cast until the full ten weeks elapse so that settles any idea we might have concerning it in the meanwhile we shall continue our walks out on the desert which were begun early last week taking a few steps at a time and increasing our distance and speed every day since it all came about because we were trying to figure out how in the world to make the two steps down from the front porch and how to get in in and out of the car on our first outing in four weeks one of our men A D who brings mail and milk to our section each day offered to help us to experiment and great was our joy to find that it was easier than we thought possible and so another bit of progress has been made during past days enough on this subject except to say that the return trip from moab was completed just before dark and mighty glad we were to reach our home after that full day during which time we accomplished complis hed the things mentioned and had the very great pleasure of mee eting other moab friends and mr and mrs M A ross our friends from price mr ross as you know is court stenographer when sessions are in progress in moab or monticello and it so happened that moab was holding court during last week needless to say it was an anex pecked pleasure to have a short visit with these friends we learned that it was their intention to drive out to see us before returning to price and we know w this was so because mrs ross had bad baked a delicious devils food cake for us which was promptly transferred to our car when we met and shared with our family later in the day work is progressing in the usual way and the continued good weather allows our men to make steady progress in collecting the winter supply of and hauling it to the middle section where it will be sawed into proper lengths to fit our many stoves and brought to our cabins at a la later 0 date the inside work on bebes house is nearly completed and before long we hope to tell you he is nicely settled in his new home and if ever a man deserved a home of his own our worker coworker co R huebner is that person we hope in time that each one of our faithful members will have the kind of habitation they want since others are also living in temporary quarters until other adjustments can be made and who are equally deserving of better housing than they have at present to help with the outdoor work we have the services of another worker coworker co in the person of peter duigou a man who ventured into our camp during the week to ask for temporary shelter he has decided to stay for a time and so s our family has increased for the we hope peter will remain indefinitely and in the meanwhile it is a great help to have an extra man durin during these fall days when so much can can still be accomplished ont of doors we hope our long chat has not wearied you but when friends i back east and some on the west coast tell us they enjoy these weekly reviews we feel we must include as much information as possible each week au revoir un til another week li W ty |
