Show field day was success despite inclement weather A field day was staged by I 1 camp 8 U at the indian creek side camp on labor day the purpose of which was to attempt to a acquaint the people in this vicinity more fully with the work the soil conservation service is doing and to promote closer relations with them even though a heavy rain came up just after supper necessitating changing the location of the evening program from the side camp to the recreation hall in the main camp the affair was considered quite successful due to business or other reasons several of the speakers and those expected to furnish musical numbers were unable to be present they were L L taylor james S andrews the bronson family and the saxophone players present at the field day activities in addition to some ranchers and landowners landowner land owners owner s from grand and san sanjuan juan counties were john redd and robert murphy of the area office and members and personnel of the camp field day events due to the large number of late arrivals the scheduled field trip over work areas was postponed at p pm in the softball game was played the teams were selected from moab and monticello the moab team winning to the tune of 9 to 4 at approximately p m visitors were conducted over parts of the work area and shown examples of contour furrowing log and pole fencing etc at pm mr woolums company commander conducted flag lowering ceremony immediately following supper was served to the visitors at the side camp the campfire program which was to have been held in the am phi theatre near the side camp was of necessity cancelled since a heavy rain began falling just after supper however the evening program was carried out quite successfully sf U ily since the speakers enteria entertainers mers and a good number of the visitors returned to the main camp just west of monticello and gathered in the recreation hall |
