Show 9 these cha changing in ging times by marie M ogden NOTE thru this medium of contact contact we call to your attention the need to think more about these changing times and t to 1 compare the happenings of this our day and generation with those I 1 of other days we also offer the thoughts and words of others who were and are the real thinkers and doers during the past and in more recent times whose influence is great in molding character and changing the habits of those who listen to them the time has come when we must revert to ancient writings and study the life habits babits and practices of the people who lived in those far away days when history was in the making even as it is today as we face another period of change one more definite and important than the average person realizes even we who mike make intensive study of the so called rys mysteries teries of life and who are delv ing into many records of past hi story do not fully understand the magnitude of the intensive work of the future which in turn will revolutionize our world of being to tb such extent that if you are one ta to live on or to make return for another period of earth life experiences li perien erien ces the change will be so great you will think you are ai living iv ing on another planet to have faith in such a belief is not unlike the faith of the early christians who were persecuted for their belief and willingness to follow jesus the one in order to propound his teachings during the years which followed his his crucifixion as a mark of his faith in and loyalty to god during those days when he laid the foundation for the christian religion we follow and believe today we have just finished reading a remarkable book entitled dawn by bi irving bacheller based on happenings in the time of christ we found this book in our pub public c library in monticello and we hope you may find it in your libraries we recommend it to you as a revelation of truth concerning the persecutions and sufferings inflict edon those who formed themselves into groups to spread the word and to follow the teachings of jesus the characters will be familiar to you as they are to us and we believe this to be an authentic story in which there is more truth than fiction our selected verse for this issue is taken from the opening pages and expresses great truth we offer extracts from other pages which may also serve as food for thought A character in the book is known as doris and is norie none other than the one who was accused of committing adultery and who was brot before jesus for sentence sen sentence lence but pardoned when jesus said let him who is without sin cast the first stone she then became a mighty power for good and when in conversation with a roman leader the following words are spoken between them at i a time when the leader is in a po to help her out of a trying situation he offers her a palace and a generous income and worldly pleasure if she will renounce het her faith she replies if you knew the things I 1 know you would understand my faith he says 1 I admire the courage it gives you but think it a kind of madness she replies if it is madness to have a peace in the midst of great trouble and to forgive those who wrong you and to be true to those who love you against all temptation the sooner the whole world is mad the better the things that you enjoy are not for me mine is another kind of armor its shield is faith its weapons are love and patience and charity and loyalty and capacity to suffer if I 1 threw away these weapons I 1 would be helpless to do my work even if I 1 had the wealth of caesar god help you to understand me we see in these words the repetition of a similar great purpose in life now for what profi teth a man to ga gain in the whole world of material things and to lose faith in god or to follow the mate material riat practices of living which degrade rather than uplift one and which cause hatred instead of love to exist and distress of mind and body rather than the peace mentioned above amidst the trouble of the world as life is lived today we also suggest reading the book of acts in conjunction with the above because we must again be living examples of anew a new order of living in more strict accord with the principles taught by our one great example in those days little was known of the positive use of the word LOVE since it was more often expressed in its negative form and resulted in passion and hatred the word charity therefore was later interpreted to mean love as used in the book of acts we offer next a definition of the word love as expressed by dr julia seton of whom we spoke in a previous issue love is the exact balancing of all lifes forces seen and unseen love is the understanding and use of all cosmic intelligence in action in any form it is the fulfilling of all laws all life is law but love is the highest law and the highest law always includes the lesser love is neither given nor taken away it IS love gives of itself not for reward but from the inner power of loving it ii be stows for just the joy of bestowing yet love both gives and takes away true love translates itself into service understanding fellowship peace patience nonresistance non resistance when there is perfect understanding of all cosmic laws and perfect adjustment of the personal rhythm of life to the universal rhythm there is LOVE where there is love there is peace where there is peace there is god where there is god there is no need apropos of the subject we offer an article written by one one of our close neighbors in monticello a young mother who finds time amid the many duties of home and family life to write down the inspirational thoughts which come to her we have offered many bits of poetry from the pen of this writer mary E young the wife of leslie young and mother of seven children god has given us laws and ordinances by which to govern our lives and to live in accordance therewith but it is left to mans wisdom and ingenuity by obedience obe dince to inspirational guidance to execute these laws and materialize latent cond 41 bons thru which the expenditure of effort may be effectual in producing the things with which we are bene fitted or made happy it is written man is that he might have joy and that thought is evidenced in every phase of life to the extent that we try to see the beauty and purpose of all that god ha hat has t cr f reciA io eff by us with w it hitzl jay and thanksgiving ind in turn to be used JA in helping hel Pini to establish his kingdom here oi on earth and to culminate his purposes for our exal ono inthis manner is joy expressed and obtained all will agree that much more joy is experienced by giving than by receiving As we give to others of ourselves of our talents and faculties we in turn benefit thereby because there is thus produced a continuous supply from the perpetual source of life div V ing substance the essence Es which enriches all who its vibrant qualities upon the foundations of this belief is based the theory of the united order of the human family and for the continual cycles of progression for the generations of mankind it is decidedly our sacred responsibility lity to give constantly and freely of the light and knowledge we receive and to help others to enjoy the fullness of the measure of their creation thus helping to fulfill that which god has designed 0 ned |
