Show former resident san juan county pays Us visit william E king not related to senator wm win H king was an entertaining visitor at the record office last monday mr kingway king was a resident of san juan county for a number of years being located in the boulder district where he still owns a section of fine land co coming ming to san juan county in the fall of 1919 he resided here for ten years or more during which time his farm became one ol of the show places of this county 01 his farm products such as corn squash watermelons water melons as well as grain and potatoes and flowers took first prize both in the county fairs and in the arid and farm exhibits at state fairs and later his place was selected as the site for the county agricultural experiment station and remained massuch as such until discontinued by the department of the interior due to the death of his first wife and family changes he decided to return to his old home town of Cast ledale emery county but he is still strongly sold on san juan county which he says will someday some day become the granary of utah and may yet decide to return here he was accompanied by one of his sons eighteen years of age who has not cared for the type of farming engaged in under irrigation projects with only a few acres of intensely cultivated land but when he saw farms comprising hundreds of acres op operated er with tractors and other big equipment he said dad dont sell the farm why this is mechanical ch farming and I 1 love m mechanics e chani cs and so mr king is is considering seriously the question of returning here we hope his decision is affirmative for he is the type of farmer that san juan needs mr king attributes his success here in farming entirely to cultivation he says his farm was no better land than thousands of acres of other land in this county but he was always a strong believer in iiii summer fal lowing without which the ifie i land cannot retain sufficient m moisture 0 ig to mature the crops he is also much impressed with t h t the h e chii new listing machines which e h c construct 0 n tiny reservoirs all over the field and prevent runoff run off causing the water to penetrate deeply into the soil he believes that farming is in its infancy in this county and that the land that is now being hawked for from one to five dollars an acre will all eventually be worth 20 to 40 an acre another thing that greatly interests mr king in san juan county is the new cooperative medical setup set up and he left our office with an armload arm load of pairs papers from our back files containing in information on this new departure in health insurance which he believes is the only rational solution of our health problem and which he hopes to see established in emery county at an early date james thompson is now farming on the king section at boulder and has about acres of wheat and approximately the same acreage in beans this year |
