| Show WHY KIT KID OURSELVES why do our representatives in washington try to see the light of lay clay through smoked glasses why do they try to kid the american people as well as themselves heres the situation in a low few words we have six or seven millions of unemployed people we have bave an overproduction of farm products and other commodities mona of our factories are idle because they dare not produce what they can not sell AND OUR FOREIGN TRADE HAS SHRUNK TO LESS THAN ONE THIRD OF WHAT IT WAS IN FORMER DAYS congress is appropriating millions of dollars as a relief measure to pull us out of the hole that is well so far as it goes it will afford temporary relief it will put nut many of six or seven millions of people back to work again 41 for a time but will it add to the available money of the country not a dollar any additional money we ave may hope to secure must come from other countries in ill exal excl exchange iange for our products i will it reduce the surplus of far farm n products and manufactures fac tures yes for a time only as long as people eat more and wear more I 1 1 but ut people cannot continue indefinitely to live beyond their means there must come a halt and then there i will be another surplus with factories curtailing their output with millions out of employment again and another depression staring us in the face i and why too much of the gold standard not enough silver because there are twenty three nations of the earth who can no longer buy our products because they have no gold with which to pay us and the premium on exchanging their silver for abold is too prohibitive they want our products are willing to buy them but they can not afford to pay two prices temporary relief from the present depression will be welcome a 2 godsend but we need something of a permanent nature that will come only when congress silver and makes it possible for us to regain the foreign trade we have lost |
