Jean Haws. Guild president, presi-dent, welcomed the Guild members. mem-bers. She gave a Christmas present of a cook book with Guild members recipes in it to all present. SHE INTRODUCED Janet Thnmnson. Helen Romnev and FATHER DAVICH told of the many Christmas songs that we sing today were Latin hymns of praise to Christ, he then sang "Silent Night" in English and "O Sanctis-sima." Sanctis-sima." in Latin. He was accompanied accompa-nied by Debbie Stevens, harpist. Programs with the story and song "Silent Night" were presented to the ladies. Myrtle Higgs. who were hostesses for the day. She then turned the time over to Helen Romney who told the origin and meaning of nr.iny of the Christmas customs and symbols throughout the world. Mrs. Romney said that the Fine Arts Guild theme this year is "Impression "Im-pression Within the Arts." Favors had copies of impressionist artists and others. Renoir. Monet. Degas, Manet and Pissano painted on them. MRS, ROMNEY introduced Father George Davich. Vicar General Gen-eral of the Salt Lake Diocese, and Debbie Stevens. Harpist from the University of Utah who presented a Christmas program. Father Davich read the story of a 26-ycar old Priest named Joseph Mohr who lived in a little Austrian village of Olierndorf. and how he and his friend Franz Gruber, a 31-year 31-year old school teacher and church organist were inspired to write the beautiful classic, "Silent Night," Dec. 23. 1818. |
