It is just one more infectious disease dis-ease that is dangerous to men and animals. , j RABIES SCARE IN 2 STATES Canine rabies have lately broken out in two border states Colorado Colo-rado -and Idaho. Five cases of this killer have been reported by the veterinary public health services of Colorado state department of health (canine rabies). Six cases (confirmed) have also been reported in Idaho by the state department of agriculture. Five humans were bitten by known rabid animals, three of whom are taking the Pasteur treat- ment. The ordinary American bat can transmit rabies. A recent investigation investi-gation in Pennsylvania revealed that a large brown bat had the disease. How can you tell a rabid dog? There are two types Dumb and Furious depending upon the revealed re-vealed symptoms. The former is more or less passive. In furious rabies, the dog indicates those symptoms which have given the disease the name of "mad dog." He seems wildly excited and snaps at anything within reach for no apparent reason. Unless confined, he may roam aimlessly infecting other animals and human beings. Finally, he succumbs to weakness, paralysis and death. Should you be bitten by a dog or other animal suspected of rabies, ra-bies, wash the wound area with lots of soap and water as quickly as possible and report immediately to vour ohvsician. Failure to so act could be disastrous. Once rabies ra-bies symptoms appear the inevitable inevi-table result follows horrible, agonizing death. What can you do to combat this menace? You can cooperate fully with your local authorities in controlling stray animals. You can have your dog vaccinated vacci-nated annually an.d recommend the same for your friends.
