Show High School Music Groups Thrill Large Audience Combined choruses and orchestras orches-tras of Olympus, Granite and Cyprus Cy-prus high schools played Saturday night to a large and appreciative audience in this area's first attempt at-tempt at a professional program by high school students. Visiting guest conductors were Harold Decker, founder of the Wichita Choral Society and head of the vocal department of Wichita Wich-ita University's school of music, and James P. Robertson, head of the orchestral division of that Kansas institution. (Robertson was made recipient this past month of a one-year's grant of study in Europe along with two other outstanding musicians of the nation and will leave soon to study abroad.) A specially prepared platform was used by the combined group of students massed effectively with the girl members wearing pastel formals and the boys white shirts and suits. Supervisors of the concert were Marvin H. Strong and Lew Wallace Wal-lace of Granite School District. Among the teachers who trained the individual groups were Ormon R. Weight and Mr. Whitelock of Olympus; A. Lee Humphries, Ber-nell Ber-nell W. Hales and H. Dean Alsop, Granite; James D. Maher and Wells A. McAllister of Cyprus high schools. |
