To memorialize and ever keep alive in the minds of succeeding generations, gen-erations, the careers and achievements of the great pioneers of the past, the Mormon Pioneer Village is not only a worthy project but one that brings great satisfaction and joy to those engaged in its creation. Such enterprizes not only enrich the future but ennoble and enhance the present. For these reasons, alone, the magnificent concept of creating a pioneer pio-neer village in the very, heart of the most beautiufl and rapidly developing devel-oping section of our city reflects great credit on those responsible for its conception. It will mean much, not only to Sugar House, but to the entire City, County and State. The location is ideal for such an enterprize. Situated within the encircling shadows of the everlastting hills; presided over by stately and magnificent Mount Olympus; surrounded by constantly increasing residential sections and a thriving business center it will welcome millions of tourists as they emerge from the Wasatch Mountains through the beautiful Golden Pass (Parley's Canyon) christened as such over a hundred years ago by Parley P. Pratt. Sugar House can well be proud of this project which could soon develop into one of the most historic and engaging attractions in Western America. Here will be gathered and established the very stores and mills our pioneer forebears built and operated; the very homes in which Brig-ham Brig-ham Young and other leaders lived; the tables from which they ate; the beds in which they slept; the carriages in which they rode; the wagons in which they worked and laid the foundation of our present economy. Nature has been very kind in establishing the terrain of the Mormon Pioneer Village site. Parley's Creek, the same stream on which the first pioneers camped further to the northwest on entering the valley on the afternoon of July 22, 1847, has carved, with the artistry of a master, vales and hills and beautiful plateaus that will provide to the builders ideal locations for the innumerable historic centers now in Continued on page 2 |
