Show POLIO ADDRESS GIVEN GROUP Mrs. Emily Smith Stewart, 1302 Yale avenue, was the guest speaker speak-er at the special Sunday breakfast of the Beta Sigma Convention held in Elko over the Memorial weekend. She is an international honorary member of the organization, as well as director of the state of Utah. Dwelling on the service women may perform, Mrs. Stewart declared, de-clared, "When we, as women, organize, or-ganize, there is much we may do to combat the polio problem." She cited the various ways in which individuals might help. "We have been distributing the booklet, 'Polio Facts,' which shows how you, as individuals, may help in therapy for those who have been stricken by polio. Volunteers are needed to transport patients from home to places where they may receive training. There are great numbers of housewives who must be taught methods of doing their housework while in their wheelchairs. We need hundreds of volunteers, many of them to work in hospitals to supplement the work done by the nurses." Mrs. Stewart told the convention of plans to organize all the chapters chap-ters of Beta Sigma so that there would be a constant supply of volunteer workers in this field. Of the 210 delegates more than half were from Salt Lake and Ogden. Mrs. Louise Gessell of Salt, Lake was convention chairman. |
