Show Teach Safety BACK TO SCHOOL CAMPAIGN URGES CARE An appeal to parents to teach their children good safety safe-ty habits was made this week by Dr. Joseph P. Kesler, acting act-ing state health director. "With the opening of school ; only a short time away, we must look once again to the 1 safety of our children who will be walking or riding their bicycles bi-cycles on bur dangerous streets and highways," he said. "Their safe conduct is our responsibility responsi-bility as motorists and as parents." , The department of public health is cooperating with the annual back to school safety program now under way as a part of its year-round child safety crusade. Dr. Kesler said that while it is important to drive safely, the primary responsibility for the safety of children rests upon parents and what they teach their youngsters. "Safety begins at home," he declared. "A child's pattern of safe behavior is based on what he observes and learns at home. If parents expect their children to leave their supervision super-vision and go off to school without tragic consequences, they must practice and teach safety habits at home." The health officer suggested that parents help their children chil-dren find the safest route to school, and to help them to know, understand and obey traffic regulations. "Your child's life depends upon what he knows, and what he knows depends on you," he said. |
