Show Musi-Comedy Hit Opens at Centre Today A merry jamboree of song, dance, romance and comedy is offered on the Centre screen in which M-G-M has gathered a galaxy of entertainment talent "Two Sisters From Boston," in in the persons of Kathryn Grayson, Gray-son, June Allyson, Lauritz Mel-chior, Mel-chior, Jimmy Durante and Peter Lawford. Backgrounded by the story of a girl who makes a hectic and breathless climb from a -Bowery beer-h'all floor show to the opera stage, the picture offers an opportunity op-portunity for each of its stellar headliners to make the most of his or her specialty. Miss Grayson, as the spirited Boston sister who entertains in I a Bowery honky tonk in order to earn money for her opera lessons, again proves her singing and acting versatility and is a delight on both eye and ear. June Allyson, as the prim Martha; Mar-tha; shocked by her sister's gaudy theatrical environment and endeavoring to bring an end to the scandalous situation only in the end to find herself in a floor show number with the riotoils Durante, is completely captivating. As for Durante, his rile as the piano-playing "Spike" is the most hilarious in which he has yet been seen. What with Lauritz Melchoir, bringing his incomparable polit-an polit-an opera voice to the screen, and young Peter Lawford making both Miss Allyson in the picture and all the girls in the audience sigh, "Two Sisters From Boston" Bos-ton" offers entertainment for every age and every taste. |
