Steele, president of Westminster Westmin-ster college, slated to give baccalaureate bac-calaureate sermon at the U. of U. commencement. ' U. Grads Wait Address By Dr. R. D. Steele 1 Dr. Robert D. Steele, president jof the Westminster College, I will deliver the baccal'aurate sermon at the University of Utah ! commencement exercises on (Siuidy, June 2, Dr. A. Ray Ol-pin, Ol-pin, president, announced Tuesday. Tues-day. More than 350 senior students will be graduated at this year's commencement. They will receive re-ceive their diplomas on Tues-jday, Tues-jday, June 4, when Dr. William :E. Rappard, director of the University Uni-versity of Geneva, Switzerland, will deliver the 77th annual commencement com-mencement address. Besides being president of Westminster College, Dr. Steele is prominent in local, civic and church affairs. Lie was named moderator of the Presbytery of Salt Lake in 1930 and of the Synod of Utah in 19-12. He is also chairman of the Intern- mountain advisory committee of the Presbyterian Church, a member of the board of directors direc-tors ol the Salt Lake Community Chest and of the American Red Cross. Dr. Steele is also chairman chair-man of the budget committee and board of dirctors of the Travelers' Tra-velers' Aid Society. A graduate of Princeton Theology The-ology Seminary, Dr. Steele received re-ceived his Doctor of Divinity degree from the College of Idaho in 1939. He studied in the graduate grad-uate college of the University of Edinburgh., Scotland, in 1928-29. He has been associated with Westminster college since 1934, when he became vice president He was named associate president presi-dent in 1936 and has been president presi-dent since 1939. He is a member of the Ki-wanis Ki-wanis club and was president of the Bonneville Knife and Fork club in 1941-42. Commencement activities will begin June 1 with initiation ceremonies for new members of Phi Kappa Phi, honorary scholastic scho-lastic fraternity, and Sigma Xi nonorary scientific fraternity. |
