Circulation reports show that the Sprague Branch had an increase in-crease of lO'c in 19 IS over the previous year, according to Miss Aurelia Eennion, librarian. During 1947, S4.7GS books, periodicals and pictures were used, while in 1948, there were 93,(125 used. The Children's department de-partment showed the biggest gain of 43,205 compared with 33.93S in 1947. During 1948, 1712 new cards were issued to people of Sugar House. Mewbery Award A recent announcement by the American Library Association is that the 1948 John Newbery award goes to Mr. Marguerite Henry for her book "King of the Wind," a horse story. The award is given for "the most distinguished dis-tinguished contribution to American Amer-ican literature for children." Mrs. Henry has published twenty-nine juvenile books of which we have nineteen, Miss Bennion said. The Caldecott Award for the most distinguished picture book for children for the year goes to Berta and Elmer Hader, for their "Big Snow." The Haders have published eighteen books of. which we have fourteen.
