Show BSackhawk Vcr Relic Donated to SUP Msa Another priceless relic was added to the collection of the Sugar House Oh?pter ;.f th" ' Sons of Utah Pioneers MoirVry when the pistol used by Col. George S. Evans to kill Chief Blackhawk during the Black-hawk Black-hawk Indian War in Utah was presented Monday to the chapter chap-ter for its museum. Additional Relics Heber G. Taylor, Salt Lake realtor, donated the pistol, Colonel Evans' sword and several sev-eral historical documents to the organization in behalf of Newell Of. Cotterell, Los Angeles, a former for-mer Salt Lake resident. Mr. Cotterell had received the relics from a descendant of Colonel Evans. According to officers of the SUP the pistol and documents will be put on display at their museum, 2000 Connor St. Gun's History On April 15, 1863, Colonel Evans was sent with a force to subdue a band of Indians under Chief Blackhawk in Spanish Fork Canyon. In writing to his wife a few days later Colonel Evans said. "I had the honor of killing the Chief Blackhawk myself with my pistol: and he came very t-.ear having the honor of kill-Twin.? kill-Twin.? inc. for he shot at me with his rifle, so close to me that the powder burnt my horse's face." During the meeting., which Mus'.'mu Plans was hold Monday evening, Nicholas G. Morgan Sr.. .-hair-man of the Salt I.-ke City Sons I of Utah Pioneer contest, called attention to the possibilities ot preserving the historic City Hall, on East First South St., to be used as a SUP museum. |
