Show TOOELE ORDNANCE DEPOT The current Red Cross drive is of more than usual interest to Corporal Fred L. Hanson, Poyn-ette, Poyn-ette, Wisconsin, because he re members what the Red Cross did for men who fought in Africa, Sicily and Italy. Wounded m ac-tion ac-tion in Italy while serving with the 10th Engineers, Corporal Hanson Han-son was returned to the States in August and is currently stationed with the 635th Ordnance Ammunition Ammuni-tion Company at Tooele Ordnance. "The Red Cross brought dough, unit and cpffee up to th.; front lines. The drove jeeps right up to where the fighting was going on," Corporal Hanson recalled. "And when I was in the hospital in Naples Na-ples they distributed kits contain-ing contain-ing shaving equipment, and all sorts of toilet articles. You know, when they pick up a man who has been wounded in battle, he naturally den't have any of his things with him so those kits were nice to hav'e." "Another thing the Red Cross did which helped a lot was to make daily visits to the hospital with PX supplies for the men. They even took care of the men who didn't have any money to buy things with." Before returning to the crew which was storing ammunition in one of the igloos on the depo:, Corporal Hanson commented. "The Red Cross does a lot of things for the men in bat.tie, I. know I've only told you about a small part of them." 9 |
