In the three and one half years since that time, tremendous tremend-ous progress hs been made. The Sugar House force has developed de-veloped into one of the best police departments in the state. The local unit boasts two radio cars, one motorcycle, short wave police radio and an elaborate telephone system. In addition, one of the radio cars is an ambulance am-bulance unit. i 24 Hour Police Service When you mention police forces around Sugar House 1 these days, you're in for some big talk. On Friday, August 1, the twelfth man was added to the Sugar House police force, making mak-ing it the largest force this com-muity com-muity has ever had in its history. hist-ory. In February 1944 when Lt. Charles J. Larson came out to assume command of the local unit, the entire force consisted of four men, including Lt. Larson. Lar-son. Police headquarters were located in an old service station Lt. Larson announced that Sugar House is now being policed po-liced sixteen hours daily with 'beat patrolmen.' "Besides the 'beat patrolmen,' traffic men are on duty and police officers are checking all the stores daily during business hours. Two radio rad-io cars are in active service 24 hours a day," he added. "The crime situation in Sugar House is at a minimum," reported re-ported Lt. Larson. "We hope to offer the most courteous, expedient ex-pedient police service we have at our command. The Sugar House Chamber of Commerce has been most cooperative with us in assisting us at all times. In addition I am grateful to Commissioner Romney and Chief Crowther for their support and constant interest." Police Roster Police officers of the Sugar House division includes: Willard De Rose, J. Charles J. Larson. Effectiveness of the Sugar House force is seen in the outstanding out-standing record made during local plaza programs. Handling crowds of thousands of persons and hundreds of vehicles, the Sugar' House police have not had a serious accident or injury to report on any of these occasions. occa-sions.
