Show Midvale Publisher Elected President of Press Group Howard C. Barrows, editor ot the Midvale Sentinel, was elected elect-ed president of the Utah State Press association at the annual convention last Friday, Satui day and Sunday at the New-house New-house Hotel. He succeeds Albert W. Epperson, editor of the Ka.vs-ville Ka.vs-ville Reflex. Clifton X. Memmott of the Helper Journal, formerly secretary of the group, was elected to the vice presidency succeeding Mr. Barows, and William Wil-liam M. Long of the Brighai-i City Xews Journal was named secretary. The association, composed ni editors and publishers of weeklies week-lies throughout, the state, were welcomed to the city by Mayor Earl J. Back-man Back-man 'of the Salt Lake chamber I of commerce and Mark Nich"!.". state secretary , of agricultural education. j -All of the Speakers stressed the importance of the small town or neighborhood weekly as a viul part of community life, and noted a general improvement improve-ment in typography and news content of weeklies throughout the nation. In this connection Mayor Giade gave The Bulletin a nice send-off as a model of what a community paper should be. Social highlight of the convention con-vention was the. banquet Saturday Satur-day night at which Mr. Sutherland Suther-land was the speaker and at which Gov. Herbert E- Maw and j Sen. Abe Murdock was intro 1 duced. Mr. Long was toastmast-I toastmast-I er. Dancing followed. Carpen-i Carpen-i ter Paper Company was host at a luncheon Saturday and Western West-ern Xewspaper Union entertained entertain-ed at the luncheon Sunday winding up the convention. The Salt Lake chamber was host at a social hour Saturday preceding the banquet. It was announced the annual summer meeting of the association associa-tion would be held at Estes Park. Colo., in conjunction with the Xational Editorial Association Associa-tion convention. |
