Show Granite High Elects Queen Newly elected Ski Queen of Granite High school is blond and vivacious Merry Ann Ashton, 16, daughter of the Rodney Ashtons, 3334 E. Mill Creek Dr. The Granite High Ski Club was organized last September for the purpose of organizing the school's ski enthusiasts into a club which would plan ski trips, parties and would give special instruction" to those interested in the sport. Ronnie Youngberg was elected president; Ben Fulmer, vice pres.; John Wells, secretary; and Bob Dust, treasurer. These four fellows founded the club. Miss Ashton was elected from a group of queen aspirants last Friday, Nov. 15. She will compete with ski queen candidates from all the other schools and ski clubs throughout the state for the Utah Ski Association queen title. A member of the Assembly Committee, Miss Ashton is a senior student at Granite. Her other activities include: secretary secre-tary of the East Mill Creek Stake Gleaner Girls; usherette at Granite Gran-ite Arts Assn. functions. She is a sports enthusiast, listing skiing and horseback riding as her favorites. Vital statistics: 5 ft. 1 in., blond shoulder-length hair, blue eyes and light complexion. She will take part in the parade of queens down Main Street, Nov, 29, from the Tribune-Telegram building to Coconut ballroom ball-room where the final judging will be held. The winner will be given a two weeks vacation at Sun Valley.
