Show Sugar House to Celebrate Homecoming, Centennial July 30 i Sugar House, which was founded 100 years ago, will have its own homecoming and centennial celebration on July 30, when the Sons of Utah Pioneers' auto and bus caravan will make a major stop here on its way to Logan. This announcement was made this week by Rulon S. Draney, president of the S.U.P., who visited the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce meeting Tuesday. Mr. Draney said that the caravan will start from Logan early Saturday, July 24, and will then travel through Brigham City, Ogden, Salt Lake, Lehi, Provo, and on to Cedar City that night. At each of the towns, more cars and buses will join the caravan. cara-van. Sunday will be spent in Cedar City and in Zion's Canyon; Can-yon; Monday and Tuesday at Grand Canyon; Wednesday at Bryce Canyon; Thursday in the Wayne County Wonderland, and then to Fish Lake Thursday night. The caravan will picnic at Aspen Grove Friday, and come to Sugar House Friday evening. Saturday the motorcade motor-cade will travel to Logan for the Sons of Utah Pioneers annual an-nual encampment. Urges Club Cooperation Success of Sugar House's centennial cen-tennial celebration will depend on the cooperation of the Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce, the local S. U. P. chapter, the Lions and Rotary Ro-tary Clubs, and the other organizations or-ganizations in this area, Mr. Draney said. He expressed appreciation ap-preciation to the people of Sugar Su-gar House, and particularly the Chamber heads, for the outstanding out-standing greeting given last July 22 to trekkers who had traveled from Nauvoo, ill., in "covered wagon" automobiles. It has been suggested by Ernest Er-nest R. McKay, S. U. P. chairman chair-man of community centennial celebrations, that Sugar House invite all of its former residents resi-dents back for the homecoming program on July 30. Mr. McKay Mc-Kay pointed out that the program pro-gram should feature a dramatic story of the community's history, his-tory, and some pioneer music and dancing. History Directory Published Simultaneous with the centennial cen-tennial program will be the publication pub-lication of a history and directory direc-tory for Sugar House by The Bulletin Publishing Company. Several historians are now at work assembling -information for the history. John W. Boud, local president of the S. U. P., announced that a special meeting will be held of Sugar House S. U. P. mem- bers on Friday, Feb. 27, at the Beau Brummel restaurant to get plans underway for the centennial program. |
