Show Southeasterner Offers Unique Dollar Operated Driver Test Car Do you need a car with which to take your driver's license examination? For the many people who do, Glen Gaddis, 2154 E. 27th South, has the solution so-lution to the problem in his "Dollar Operated Driver Test Car." The unique car is an outgrowth out-growth of the owner's experience experi-ence as a driving instructor. Mr. Gaddis, who was disabled by polio while serving with the army in World War II, began giving driving lessons in October, Octo-ber, 1947. He found that many of his students and others desiring to take driver's tests lacked cars with which to do it, so he attempted at-tempted to relieve the situation. situa-tion. At first, Mr. Gaddis attemipt-ed attemipt-ed to offer a service for "drivers' "driv-ers' and chauffeurs' tests by making his own car available. This he found was impractical, because of the time element involved in-volved on his part, as it was necessary to stay with the car. Special appointments did not help too much, because they could not keep up with the demand. de-mand. Mr. Gaddis then designed a device by which his car could be left unattended at the testing test-ing area. Anyone desiring to use it could do so by inserting a dollar in the timing and control con-trol box. According to Mr. Gaddis, the test car has received enthusiastic enthusias-tic response from both licenaa officials and applicants, as it has greatly alleviated a bottleneck bottle-neck that has existed at tha state Capitol because of a lack of driving facilities.
