Show Local Chief Says 'Gang' Broken Up Declaring that there is no such thing as a really bad boy, Sgt. C. Owen Poulsen announced this week that the so-called "Sugar Gang" had been broken up. Thirty-five boys were interviewed, inter-viewed, Sergeant Poulsen stated in regard to the juvenile petty crime wave that had harassed the residents of South East Salt Lake during the last months of 1949.. Eleven boys were arrested and will appear before the juvenile court. Leader on Probation The "Gang" leader, a seventeen-year-old youth, according to Sergeant Poulsen, has been released to the- custody of a brother living in California. He will remain on probation providing pro-viding that he stays in California Califor-nia for one year. The recent robbery of Pete's Sport Shop is included among the ciimes allgedly committed 13' the boys. The police state however, that the boys were not implicated in the South East jewelry robbery. Parents Cooperate Sergeant Poulsen stated that the parents of the offending youths had been very cooperative coopera-tive with the police in helping to solve the problem of breaking break-ing up the organized law violations. |
