Show Record Crowd Pronounces Canyon Party Huge Success Close to 300 persons turned out for the annual Sugar House Chamber of Commerce summer picnic and outing at Storm Mountain in Big Cottonwood Cotton-wood Canyon Wednesday night, and it was the biggest and best event of its kind in chamber history. Throughout the afternoon the youngsters and the not-so-youngsters too played ball, pitched horseshoes and ran races, had their pictures taken, made sound recordings and generally gen-erally had a big time, and along about dark at the call 'Come and Get It" they lined up for a delicious picnic supper. sup-per. The event was in charge of the program committee headed by Paul L. Pehrson, with Sid Ottley in charge of the entertainment; enter-tainment; Mickey Hart, special events; Al Larsen, children's games and contests; Paul Black-ett, Black-ett, refreshmeents, and a dozeti or so other willing workers who pitched in and helped put it over in great style. Random notes on the big doings: do-ings: Horace Richards and Bud Brain in white caps and aprons helping sling the hash . . . Con Silard, likewise attired, pouring punch . . . Phil Heilbut having his mind read by Melvin Ham-bleton, Ham-bleton, magician . . . Horace Sorensen singing a recording of "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" . . . the Knowlton redheads playing play-ing bali . . . Forrest Anderson sprinting down the home stretch in the relay race . . . the Hobbs' and Shurtleffs dining off a big rock . . . the Tripps and Jacobs' drinking punch under the trees . . the Niel Whites and Lunts maneuvering for table space. . . . Dewey Peterson dishing dish-ing up the potato salad (tubs of it) . . . Al Larsen beating on a garbage can and hollering for watermelon rinds . . . the Parishes Par-ishes and Birches perched on a table listening to Clair Smith's Cockney recitation . . . Mickey Hart getting a recording of Jerry Jer-ry Ottley's trombone number . . . Glen Ruttenbur snapping flash shots of the gang . . . the Seeg-millers Seeg-millers retrieving their youngster young-ster off a high rock . . . Secretary Secre-tary of State Monson getting away with a hamburger AND a hot dog (besides what else) . . . Mr. and Mrs. Bert Leitz giving out with some beautiful violin and piano music . . . the Merrill gals making sweet with "To Each His Own." . . . We could go on like this for hours, but that gives you a rough idea ... It was a great party. |
