Show Half of Ship Makes Port; Much of Cargo Is Saved MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA. Half of a 10,000-ton American freighter that foundered and broke up recently off the coast has arrived ar-rived at an Australian port after ten heavy bombers and thousands of tons of oil and other war material had been saved in one of the war's most remarkable salvage jobs. After the ship had piled up she broke in two with the severed sections sec-tions resting 200 feet apart. Two hundred Australian Imperials, who lived aboard the forward section, emptied both sections and then brought the salvageable half to port. k |
