Show Days of '47 Queen Deadline Set for Monday, June 28 Queen and Two Attendants to Be Selected To Reign Over Days of '47 Celebrations Girls residing in the southeast area were invited to submit their applications for queen of this year's Days of '47 celebraton, scheduled to be held during the week of July 18 to 24, by Mrs. Kate B. Carter and Mrs. Ellen C. DuPont of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. There are only 10 days left in which to apply for queen, Mrs. DuPont announced. Monday, June 28, is the deadline dead-line and the judging will be held Tuesday evening at the Hotel Utah. Any girl may apply for the coveted honor of Days of '47 queen who meets the following qualifications; (1) a descendant of a Utah pioneer who came to Utah before May 10, 1869; (2) a total abstainer from tobacco and alcoholic drinks; (3) unmarried, not previously married; (4) between be-tween ages of 18 to 25 inclusive. Application blanks may be obtained ob-tained from the Daughters of Utah Pioneers office at the state capitol, or from any local camp of the DUP, Mrs. DuPont said. When completed, the applications applica-tions must be accompanied by a suitable photograph. For the night of the judging the girls will wear an afternoon and street dress and then their final appearance will be in a formal. Girls will be identified by numbers, and the judges will not be made known, according to Mrs. DuPont, so that there will be no chance for favoritism. Queen's Attendants The judges' first choice will be named queen, and the second sec-ond and third choices will be attendants. Coronation ceremonies cere-monies will be held on the state capitol steps a week before July 18, at which time ail queen candidates can-didates will act as ladies-in-waiting. The queen and two attendants at-tendants will be presented with regal gowns for the coijination and for other events which will follow. |
