Show MR. D.A.'s CRIME CALENL". MAY it the Month for . . . GANG REPRISALS: Local probers prob-ers in many communities have taken over the task spotlighted on a national scale by the Senate's crime investigators. Graft and accusations ac-cusations of graft reveal a definite link between organized crime and corrupt politicians. The law's investigators, in-vestigators, needless to say, had to get their information somewhere. The hoodlums who "talked" are doing the sweating right now along with uneasy city officials. The underworld exacts a terrible penalty and we all know of at least one gangland reprisal. You'll be reading plenty about the old-style old-style rubbing out of "canaries." SPORTS SHAKEUP: The basketball basket-ball situation of last Winter didn't help matters any in other branches of sports. The gambling tieup echoed throughout the country and a whole chain of unsavory doings in the sports world is ready for an airing amateur sports as well as professional. We predict a general housecleaning in collegiate collegi-ate athletics. By that we mean there'll be firings and resignations in managerial and top brass brackets brack-ets in amateur circles. Watch for it, too, in the refereeing clique. FIRE MUGGS: As guilty as the deliberate criminal is the careless citizen. In this instance, and this time of the year, we mean the motorist or camper who becomes careless with lighted matches or neglects to put out the compfire. A forest fire can be your fault, and a carelessly throw.i -igarette can make you a criminal. |
