Show Special Session Discussed At Public Meeting Thursday At a meeting of people from the southeast area held in the Sugar House Library on Thursday, Thurs-day, May 17, the problems of the special session of the State Legislature, which will meet at 2 p.m., Monday, June 4, were discussed. The meeting was conducted by Mr Henry K. Clegg, Democratic Demo-cratic chairman of the 10th Legislative Leg-islative District. The proposed agenda for the special session, as outlined in Gov Lee's proclamaion calling the lawmakers back, was read to the group by Charles "Chick" Romney, local representative from District No. 10. Rep. Romney discussed mostly educational edu-cational matters, and in particular partic-ular House Bill 1, the only bill passed in the regular session over- the governor's veto, the proposed schedule of appropriations appropri-ations for the biennium for the institutions of higher learning, and the general outlines of a bill being discussed by the Utah Legislative Council similar to the famous Senate Bill 75. This was one of the most controversial con-troversial bills of the regular session It pertained to the monies requested by the primary pri-mary and secondary schools for the next biennium. his bill was twice vetoed by the governor. |
