Show Legion .Maps Program for Junior Nine Tryouts and practice will start some time next week for the Sugar House Legion post entry in the national Legion junior baseball league, according accord-ing to S. Clay Mills, athletic officer for Post 65. Jimmy Gil- bert, 'South high mentor, will coach the team which will be made up of boys living anywhere any-where in the South high school district. Team places are open to all boys living in this area who , have not reached their 17th birthday by Jan. i, 1946. One of the greatest national athletic movements in the country, the league annually trains thousands thou-sands of young mensin the best traditions of the sport. More 'than 300 players r(ow in the major leagues got their start in Legion baseball, according to Mr. Mills. This year arrangements arrange-ments have been made with Eddie Ed-die Mulligan and other officials of the Salt Lake Bees to give some special schooling in the fine points of the game to the Legion boys, in addition to their regular coaching and playing. The Susrar House team, which is being sponsored by Petty Motor, Mo-tor, will nlay a regular schedule with other teams throughout the state after which the state champs will enter a regional tournament. Regional winners then enter, a district playoff from which entries in the national championships are chosen. The national champs are always entertained en-tertained at the world series at the close of the season. Mr. Wills said efforts are being made to get the national championship series scheduled here next year as a part of the Centennial celebration. cel-ebration. Opening play in the local cir-suit, cir-suit, scheduled for June 4, will find Sugar House playing Murray, Mur-ray, Salt Lake Post -2 playing Jordan, Draper playing the Mervin S.
