Show Local Talent Featured in Utah Opera Workshop December 5-6 Double-Bill Premiere of Two Operas, II Tabaroo and Ariadne Slated to see The Mocking Bird will be pleased to note that the two leading singers in that production produc-tion will also be seen in the Workshop musical. Jewel Johnson John-son is cast as Zerbinetta, a lively young woman being pursued pur-sued by four young men. Glade Peterson, who soon enters the Army, is cast in II Tabarro as the lover who is murdered and wrapped in the cloak from which the opera receives its j name In Ariadne, he is cast in a comedy role, giving him a fine opportunity to show his versatility. From Salt Lake Theater come lone Duncan whose fine contralto con-tralto has been heard on an increasing in-creasing number - of city-wide programs; Stanley Steadman, playing the comedy character of the wig-maker with finesse; Leo Jensen, who is capable of ad-libbing ad-libbing until he builds "one line up to forty-nine", and Virginia Baker. The occasion is a double bill premiere! Neither II Tabaroo (The Cloak!) nor Ariadne auf Naxos has been performed in the intermountain region before, and so will offer local opera lovers an evening of captivating ; music that will both charm and delight them. Ariadne dominated dominat-ed the famous musical festival at Edinburgh in September. Claer McMasters of 1420 Kensington Ken-sington Ave., will sing the leading lead-ing role of Ariadne, a beautiful Grecian princess, on Tuesday night; on Wednesday, another Sugarite, Caroline Welling of 631 Garfield Ave., will interprete the role Also in Strauss's Ariadne will be Melba Egbert of 1746 Laird Ave Those who were lucky enough |
