Show Your Stake in Television IN FIVE BRIEF YEARS since the conclusion of World War II we the people have seen some gigantic things develop de-velop which have challenged our mentality and imaginations. To most of us the major developments topping the list as brain-busters are those concerned with war and destruction. But we also are going through a revolution in our own homes which is as challenging as atomic energy and seemingly just as powerful And yet most of us are proceeding along our merry way hoping that everything will work out well. There's a new magic in the air, and like atmoic energy it is good or bad according to the way we use it. We refer to television or TV, as it is popularly called. A survey made recently in Connecticut found that children from 11 to 15 ;years of age who had television at home spend twenty-seven -hours a week in front of their sets almost as many as they iSpend at schooL Adults are likewise spending a lot of time viewing the Images that pass across the TV screen. -Homes Which have "TV sets are increasing termendousljy. It shouldn't be too long before a big majority of homes are equipped with television. tele-vision. At that time, it will no doubt become the most powerful pow-erful mediums in America because of its double impact of seeing and hearing. The time is now, therefore, for everyone to take a real interest in the type of programs which are produced for television. We should ask for a quantity of high-type programs pro-grams with good entertainment value. We want variety, to be sure, but let's not have a super-abundance of slop and stuff that insults our intelligence. We hope that the great TV industry will attract the finest type of talent, producers and personnel, so that we the people will be made better through the new giant in our lives . . . TV. |
