Show NEWS TIDBITS From The Bulletin Files 15 TEARS AGO Jack Burt, pioneer barber of Sugar House, will open an up-to-date bairber shop at 1096 East Twenty-first South Street this week. The removal of Mr. Jack Burt to his new location does not effect the Van Harten Barber Shop. Mr. Van Harten Har-ten is one of the oldest barbers bar-bers in Sugar House and has' been at his location, 1107 East 21st South, for a number of years. He expects to be in his present location for some time to come. Willard B. Richards, Jr., with his two sons Henry and ' John, of the Granite Furniture Furni-ture Company returned from a buying trip to the eastern markets. Merchants of Sugar House have responded nearly one hundred per cent in purchasing purchas-ing tickets for the Sugar House Day at Saltair July 18, according to Lionel Olsen and Hy Young, who has been working with George Lucas and Orson Kasteler, officers pf the Sugar House Business Men's League. 10 YEARS AGO The July meeting of the Sugar House Business and Professional Women's club was held Monday evening at the home of Mrs. John C. Barnes, president. Mrs. Jeannette P. Garner, president of the Salt Lake BPW and newy appointed liquor liq-uor commissioner of Utah was a guest speaker. Officials of the Less Taylor Motor Company and their employes participated in their annual outing Tuesday afternoon. after-noon. Mrs. Ethel Robinson has assumed as-sumed active management of the Lady Gay Shoppe after an extended illness which has caused her to be absent for some time. Glen E. Tripp was asked by the Sugar House Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce to accept chairmanship of a committee to deal with problems rising out of Fairmont Park. 5 YEARS AGO Final plans have been made and all is in readiness for Saturday's hike and barbecue at Big Mountain being sponsored spon-sored by the Sugar House Sons of the Utah Pioneers. More than 300 people are expected to attend the fete, Wendell J. Ashton, president and general chairman announced. an-nounced. Sugar House, past, present and future, will be the theme of the parade and program slated for Tuesday, July 23, in the plaza, fliis community's contribution to the annual Days of '47 celebration. The East Mill Creek and Lady Lions held joint installation instal-lation for new officers last week end in Big Cottonwood Canyon. Jill Thompson directed di-rected a special installation stunt presented by the ladies. Lion officers installed are: Fred Pike, president; Warren Diehl, first vice president; Grant .Maxfield, second vice president: LaMar Gardner, secretary-treasurer; F. LeRoy Anderson, tail twister; and Lee Astle, lion tamer. The new Lady Lion officers are: Jean Jensen, president; Ida Turner, vice president; and Bessie Evans, secretary. Frank Pitts was in charge of arrangements for the dinner. |
