Show Biologist's Discovery Cuts Period of Invalidity in i Fracture Cases. MOSCOW. An antireticular cytotoxic cyto-toxic serum that has proved valuable valu-able in the treatment of arthritis and war injuries, according to its discoverer, -Prof. Alexander A. Bogomoletz, president of the Ukrani-. Ukrani-. an Academy ol Sciences, also may be useful in preventing the recurrence recur-rence of a cancer that has been removed. re-moved. Professor Bogomoletz said that the serum, which is obtained by repeated re-peated injection into horses of the cell elements of the spleen and bone marrow taken from human corpses, preferably from persons who had died suddenly without infectious disease, dis-ease, had been tried on thousands of patients and had hastened the healing of wounds and contributed to the knitting of fractures. The interview was published in Red Star in connection with his dec-. dec-. oration as a Hero Socialist Labor. The interest of the Red army newspaper news-paper grew out of the fact that the serum has been used particularly in the treatment of fractures caused by bullets. These fractures, under the normal means of treatment, did not knit for many months and the wounded appeared to be doomed to invalidity. When the serum was used thrice daily, injecting one drop hypodermically each time, the wounds knitted in five or six weeks and the soldiers were able to return to the front. "This serum possesses the capacity capac-ity of oppressing in big doses, and of stimulating in small doses, all the above - mentioned most important functions of the physiological system sys-tem of connective tissues." Professor Bogomoletz, who is 62 years of age, has been president of the Ukrainian Academy of Science Sci-ence since 1930. |
