Show Third ' Presbyterian Church , Pr&sbyterian members of the Board of Foreign Missions who just recently returned from a visit vis-it to Thailand, center of Eastern war news at the present time, say that religion there has been .having its upheavel also. The Buddhists are very strong and have been carrying on an "evangelistic "evan-gelistic campaign." Christians too have been having an experience of unusul spiritual interest. Presbyterians Pres-byterians are. the only large Protestant Pro-testant body carrying on religious work in this country. There are 40,000 Catholics. On a recent Sunday evening about 150 Christian Endeavor youth from four churches of the city gathered at third Church for a Christian Endeavor "Rally." Led by "Bill Seevenson there was an enthusiastic discussion of "The Christian Attitude toward War and its problems." There were accordion, violin and vocal numbers and a social hour. It may come as news to many that in the last two years 95 per cent of all aid to refugee work in he United States has come from Jews, though Jews constitute only sixty percent of the refugees received in that time. The patriotism pat-riotism of Jews is also manifest in the recent move to organize a Jew ish army, and should help to stem the tide of anti-Semitism in America. A beautiful pageant and Chris mas program has been planned by a Sunday School committee for the Christmas program in this church. An orchestra will handle the special musical assignments, and a tree and other good things will be part of the good things the children and adults will enjoy en-joy this Yuletide at the church. Last week at the home of Mrs. R. A. Glenny after the regular business was disposed of the ladies lad-ies enjoyed a "White Elephant Party." On Tuesday, December 16, the Jessie Lee Ellis Society will meet at the home of Mrs. Charles Jack, 1964 Douglas, for their annual Christmas program and party. |
